Successful entrepreneurs are often asked for their perspectives on debunking top myths. Every entrepreneurs journey to success has been different. So has their worldwide impact and their self-made success can each be used as a study to reduce risk of failure. Entrepreneurship is no longer male-dominated, age or race dominated. Women-owned businesses are of the most successful businesses and sit in the fastest-growing segments.

Common entrepreneurship myths exist that deter people from exploring this exciting journey. sometimes these come from the way the general public perceives the journey to be, other times it comes from the misrepresentation of experiences.

Myth 1 – Entrepreneurs don’t have a personal life

Entrepreneurs do have a personal life. In fact, they may have a better quality of life because they work for themselves. Yes, it may require countless hours to get to a stage where the entrepreneur is able to maximize profits in your corporation. But like any business, there are business life-cycles that exist. Putting the right structure and processes in place from the onset will determine the amount of time consumed in the business.

Myth 2 – It takes a lot of money to start a business

Depending on the type of business that you want to start, a big capital injection may be required. There will always be start-up costs involved – marketing, statutory requirements, etc. The extent of these costs is determined by the entrepreneur. Nimble planning is a must and will guide you to focus on where you spend your money at start-up, online marketing vs. paid media.

Myth 3 – Entrepreneurs have formal education

This is not always the case. Formal education may guide the thinking of the entrepreneur, but some of the most successful entrepreneurs have not had formal education. Interestingly enough, the likes of Elon Musk and Jack Ma prefer to not work with formally educated graduates. They believe graduates are less creative and are programmed.

Myth 4 – Entrepreneurs are Introverts

An introvert is someone who is energized from within not necessarily someone who prefers not to socialize. Both introverts and extroverts need to be able to gather their thoughts and make good strategic decisions for their business. Interestingly enough, there has been an increase in the uptake of activities such as meditation, creativity jogging, and wellness retreats. These are used to guide entrepreneurs to a space of internal guidance and access to inspiration.
